If you are looking for a reliable, flexible and inexpensive website hosting solution in Australia, look no further than Quadra Hosting.

For a start, these guys host web sites only - they don't dabble in website design, search engine optimisation, directory listings, or anything else. You can register a domain name with them, but that sort of goes hand in hand with web hosting.

Their hosting accounts are feature rich, but one of the best features is the pricing structure, or web hosting plans. Hosting one website will cost you a mere $9.95 per month (cheaper if you pay quarterly, 6 monthly or yearly), BUT, if you have more than one website, you can host 1 to 5 websites for only $19.95 per month. And if you need to upgrade (or downgrade) your account, you can control that by selecting your account type in the control panel - the pro-rata increase or refund is simply applied to your bill. All prices are in Australian currency.

Their plans and number of websites allowed are:
Basic (1); Value (5); Standard (10); Pro (15); Premium (25); and Ultimate (50).

You have the choice of either Unix or Windows environments, and the amount of traffic allowed and disc usage varies as you go up in plans, but both are more than adequate for most uses.

All plans allow for unlimited email boxes, aliases, and forwards, and include built in anti-spam software which you can control through the Quadra Control Panel - a very important feature these days.

If you require a database, even the most basic plan comes with a free MySQL database, and as you go up in the plans, so does the number of databases allowed. If for some reason you require more, they are available for a small monthly fee.

Another very important feature are the statistical analysis tools provided to give you a detailed look at your website traffic. Even here you have a choice - you can install AwStats or Webalyzer - or both - but AwStats is by far the best option.

The Quadra Hosting Australian web hosting solution is based in Sydney, NSW. If you are an Australian business targeting an Australian audience, i strongly recommend you use an Australian based host. However, if you are aiming at an American demographic, Quadra also have many US based servers with virtually the same features, the only exception being that more bandwidth is allowed (this is due to the fact that bandwidth is cheaper in the USA than Australia).

Quadra also have VMware hosting facilities for mission critical applications etc, however I will review that option in a further article.

My Experience

I've used many web hosts over the years (since 1995), and I have to say Quadra is by far the best value and the most reliable. When they do maintenance, they actually give you advance warning, providing an estimate of disruption to services - if any. Thankfully, due to their setup, service disruption is very rare, but if it ever needs to occur, they time it to be well out of normal hours. Unlike many hosts I've used in the past, where maintenance is neither scheduled nor broadcast.

I can attest to Quadra's extreme reliability - I've used them for over 6 years, and have hundreds of websites hosted with them. The fact is, in my experience, if I ever need to contact support, it is a simple matter of submitting a trouble ticket, and one of the experienced staff will reply quickly.
