Search Engine Optimisation (Search Engine Optimisation)
Statistics show us that more than 80% of traffic from search engines comes from organic results. Basically, unless you are on the first page of Google™, regardless if you have a PPC strategy, your website may not be performing to it's full potential. Copywriting

Website Copywriting A good copywriter knows which words trigger the feelings that compel people to make decisions. They write with flair, making it easy for people to be drawn into what they are saying about your business, services or products - see professional copywriting, and an example of good copywriting for a Mercedes Dealer, or not-so-good copy for a Used Mercedes dealer.

Directories

Directory Listings You should add your website to as many directories as you can. Check out our free Australian Business Directory page for addresses and information about business directories.

News, Blog and Article index page A company website should project an image of professionalism and credibility. One way to help achieve this goal is to ensure your web pages have few, if any, typos and/or spelling errors.

Every one of us is guilty of making a typo here and there, and some are more adept at spelling than others.

Over the years, justweb™ has had many MS Word documents submitted containing web page copy, and even though MS Word has a spell checker, the number of typos and errors that have been missed is astounding.

Spell Checker A lot are picked up in the formatting stage for website development, but even then, some are still missed.

Companies whose employees update sites using content management systems (CMS), shopping carts and Blogs, are particularly at risk of allowing typos and spelling errors to creep into their content. Managers and supervisors may simply not have the time or capacity to check the sheer volume of content that is being uploaded under their watch.

So who can keep your content on the "straight and narrow" with a minimum of fuss?

Luckily, there is an online spell checker company called spellr.us who can do those checks automatically for you. Some of the features of spellr.us are:

online Spelling Checker You simply create an account, add a schedule, and let spellr.us scan your website periodically (depending on your account type) so that you can avoid those embarrassing typos and spelling errors. Or you can create an account and do one-off scans - basically, a pre-paid account (as opposed to a monthly fee).

How easy is it?

The process is quick and easy. The following examples contain screen captures from one of our clients, Nightingales Wedding Planners: In the reporting stage, there are three options: As mentioned above, there is also a "word cloud" (or tag cloud) which displays once the scan completes, alerting you to the most likely errors quickly.

There are three levels or errors: Likely; Possible; and Not likely.

The system is quite clever in that with all my scans, the "likely" errors are almost always actual errors, the "possible" errors included odd place names, scientific or medical terminology, abbreviations, or similar, and the "not likely" errors are almost always not errors at all. Damn smart!

You can add any words to the dictionary that you know to be correct, for example a place name. Or you can add words in bulk by selecting all, then simply remove the ones which are actual errors.

When browsing errors by URL, the system cleverly overlays the errors on top of your web page so you can see clearly where the mistakes are. It will also show you any errors in the source code spelling, for example alternate text (used for images and descriptions) of <alt="show me the erors"> would be picked up and displayed in a flashing box within the source code. Other possible options include choosing to have the errors emailed to you, checking internal and external links in your site, and generating full reports.

What does it cost?

You can try spellr.us for free by scanning up to 100 of your website pages, but there are currently six different accounts starting off from a one time fee of $10 (Meerkat Prepaid). This is the perfect option if you have a small website that you don't update very often and you want to check the spelling site wide. See the online spell checker plans page for more details about pricing.

Finally, spellr.us is owned and developed by an Australian company.

Check them out now and sort out all those nasty typos quickly and easily with their online spell checker.
