Copywriting
A good copywriter knows which words
trigger the feelings that compel people to make decisions. They write with
flair, making it easy for people to be drawn into what they are saying about
your business, services or products - see professional copywriting,
and an example of good copywriting for a
Mercedes Dealer, or not-so-good copy for a Used Mercedes dealer.
When placing an external link to your website from another website, rather
than placing a link on a page as in this example
www.justweb.com.au/copywriting/copywriter.html, I would use the most
powerful or relevant keyword or key phrase, in this case "copywriter",
and link that word (or phrase). This is what is referred to as "anchor text".
For example: "It is important to use a competent
copywriter
when writing articles for the web".
Search engines find links appearing in the body of a page more "natural", and
arguably more important than navigational links. It's logical really, isn't it?
It would be hard to slip an irrelevant link into the body of a normal web page
and have it make sense to a reader, ergo the link is deemed to be more relevant,
and of more help (from an SEO point of view as well as to the viewer) to the destination website.
In a standard navigational structure, which may (should) appear on every page of
your website, you can link to almost anything, whether it's relevant to the page
you're on or not.
A link to a copywriting article in the body of text about copywriting, is far
more valuable than a link to a copywriting article in the navigation of a page
about a company profile (for example).
