Listing your website in different online directories can play a significant
role in improving your search engine results, your traffic, and of course your

Not only do you (hopefully) get the benefit of direct traffic from the business directory you list in, but it plays a key part in your off site optimisation.
The problem is, there are so many websites where you can place a link to your
site and description of your business, it's hard to a) find them and b) manage
them.
That's all in the past now - there is a fantastic free service called OneWayTextLink.com. This site helps you to not only find both free and paid directories to list your site in, but it helps you to manage your listings too!
It's very easy to do, and only takes a few minutes to set up.
1) Sign up - the service is free, but they do require you to link back to them from somewhere in your website.
2) Click on "Free web directories". Start at the top, then list your site on these directories.
3) Select "mark as submitted" as you go - the site will allow you to enter the link title and date you submitted the listing.
Choose your link titles and descriptions wisely.
Let's take justweb™ as an example. justweb™ is a website design business in Sydney, Australia. We develop websites and perform search engine opimisation tasks for our clients, as well as various other website-related services.
If we consider the two services mentioned, we should have two distinct titles:
"Website Design Australia" and "Search Engine Optimisation" (for example).
We would also have two different descriptions:
"Website design business located in Sydney Australia" and "Search enigne optimisation services for your website".
Mix it up a bit. Don't use the SAME titles and descriptions everywhere. Besides looking unnatural to Google, it limits your directory listing optimisation to a few words whereas using different titles and descriptions allows you to place more relevant links in the directories.
You might also try and link back to pages other than your home page. For example, rather than linking "search engine otimisation" to justweb™'s home page, we might link that directly to the SEO page itself. Please note that some directories may only allow links to the root address, or (eg) http://www.your-website-name.com.au.
You should then dedicate an hour per week to add your site to multiple directories - it will be time well spent.
At last count, there were over 1300 free directories and over 300 paid directories in OneWayTextLink.com, so that's a LOT of one way links - all managed in a very easy to use and free website.
